What is a Podiatrist?
A Podiatrist is a registered health care professional who deals with the diagnosis and treatment of lower limb conditions.
Podiatrists in Australia are all registered with their respective states Registration Boards, and abide by strict regulations governing sterilization and infection control.
Do you need a referral to see a Podiatrist?
No, a referral is not needed to see a Podiatrist if you are a private client.
However clients who are seeing a Podiatrist through Medicare, Workcover, or DVA do need a referral from the general practitioner, surgeon or other allowable allied health professional that is referring the client.
Does Medicare cover Podiatry?
Yes - but only for certain people.
Your GP will assess whether you are eligible to be covered by the EPC (Enhanced Primary Care) scheme.
This scheme is ONLY for patients who have long term chronic conditions, such as diabetes, long term arthritis, or vascular disease etc. Not all people are eligible.
There are limits to the amount of visits allowed per year also.
Currently our EPC clients pay up front at the time consultation, and then take the receipt to Medicare for reimbursement. There is a gap amount. Please contact our reception for further details.
Do Private Health Funds cover Podiatry?
Most health funds cover Podiatry to a certain degree. It depends on your fund and level of cover what benefit you can receive. Please contact your health fund to find out what you are entitled to.
Can I claim my Private Health Rebate at time of consultation?
Yes if your fund subscribes to the HICAPS system of payment, we can process your health fund rebate at the time of consultation meaning you only have to pay the difference.
What is an orthotic?
Orthotics are shoe inserts to help to reduce pain or correct deformity ion the foot, legs and/or back.
They can be prefabricated which mean they are heat moldable and allow so modifications to be made to them.
They also can be custom made from a plaster cast of the feet. The materials they can be made out of, and their shape is highly variable and be customized to the client, and their complaint
